Is this not the cutest toy ever seen? Serious sputnik space-age retro love going on here! And whats not to love: original box AND tin toy in working condition. It even has the original price on the box!!! I think my friend Jane priced this too low! You can read more about it at her Etsy store, JanesVintageFinds!
Mantiques – Up and Running April 18, 2011
FINALLY manufactured some time to get most of the mantiques in one location: The Mantiques Store on Etsy! These treasures have been piling up in the guest* bedroom and now it is time to get them listed. I love Etsy, but where is the men’s section? I can find 5,507 listings for dandelions, but only 85 listings for machinist?!? All I can say is I am doing my small part in my small way! And thank you kindly for stopping by!
*As if I would ever have guests.
New Year’s Resolution: Buy Large Junk January 10, 2011
I feel better already! One resolution I know I will be able to stick to! I resolve to buy all the interesting, large junk I see and love at estate sales, but do not want to sell online, through Save the Vintage. Big items mean big boxes, and big boxes mean big shipping charges – although I have learned that Fed-Ex Ground is the way to go for large boxes.
Fortunately Central Arkansas has great antique malls, and so I have been kicking around the idea of my own (small) booth space. Cruised through one just the other day, but it was way too junkie even for me. So I resolve to keep looking. I have just downloaded Selling in an Antique Mall, and it has been extremely helpful.
If you have experience (good or bad) with your booth space, leave a comment (HA! Like I have any readers!) about the one best piece of advice for us newbies! (Actually, I am looking for someone to talk me out of doing this!).
The Well-dressed Child November 19, 2010
When you get tired of looking at old dusty rusty vintage junk that I keep dragging up, please take a look at this cutie! He first showed up at The Sartorialist, then he was stolen by To the Manner Born, and I have since stolen him for this blog. Love the classic linen shorts and knee socks with pom-poms.
1950 Royal Quiet Deluxe Typewriter November 18, 2010
Why do old vintage typewriters keep following me home? This one is very handsome with its tweed case and key, so that was probably the attraction. Of course it still has the instruction booklet with it, copyright date of 1950 - that would have been the first thing I would have thrown out after I got the hang of the home keys and all. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. Stop by for a peek at Save the Vintage!
More Paris Flea Marketing August 8, 2010
More wonderful French finds, but this time blogs and online shopping! First stop is the Paris Hotel Boutique, with Lynn’s beautiful online store and blog (she’s not really operating out of a Paris Hotel – she’s really in SF). Just look at this adorable painting:
The second French find is just as cool (maybe a smidge cooler): Shopping in Paris with your own personal flea marketer, Claudia! You can get all the details at her blog, The Paris Apartment. Her next shopping trip is September, so click on through. (She even has her own Paris flea market app – way cool).

Retro Kitchen Collectibles on Etsy July 19, 2010
Etsy has quite the reputation for handmade everything, with the most talented artisans who can design and create anything. And while I wish I was crafty and had even a smidge of imagination, I really envy the Etsy Vintage collectors – curators, really – who can pull together retro treasuries like the Retro Kitchen Love treasury from Cookbook Addict.
Wouldn’t you love to have everything shown here? How did Cookbook Addict come up with all of this and how long did it take her? I’m pretty sure I could learn to cook if I had the right motivation and a completely redone kitchen.
Vintage Athletics July 9, 2010
I keeping buying vintage athletic wear and sporting goods – if I could, I would have an entire shop of vintage letter jackets and sweaters, cool old sports equipment, and the like. Maybe it’s because I was too klutzy in school for sports – and too flighty to have stuck it out for a letter jacket? I probably would have made a good referee, had I learned any of the rules.
I especially home in on any sporty items that would make for a retro or vintage tailgate – like this 1950s Skotch Kooler. How cool would that look on the tailgate of a 1977 Jeep Wagoneer on a crisp fall Saturday?
